Bostonians deal with extreme heat and humidity the way Washingtonians deal with a big snow.

Heh.

by freaking out, talking about it non-stop on the local news, consulting local officials and clearing out stores of relevant supplies.

Yup. It's going to be 101 here (DC) tomorrow. Is anyone freaking out? No.

Seriously!

Have they never heard of air conditioning?

(From a centrally air-conditioned house in Arlington. The one in *Virginia*.)

Yes. And similarly, since there is at least one major snow in DC every year, you'd think people would learn that no matter how much you like milk you don't need 8 gallons to survive the storm.

Sure, both extreme heat and big snow storms can be dangerous. But seriously!

Yeah, in the summer everyone in DC just goes about their business, just slightly sticky. The men still wear their full suits, women pull out the sandals and skirts. It makes me bitchy(er) because inevitably that's when I miss all of my transportation connections and have to walk everywhere and end up in my office dripping (gee, kinda like this morning). But at least my AC works now.
